Getting Started With Blockchain Gaming

Here we'll walk you through the steps toward getting set up with a digital wallet so you can start playing blockchain-based games in no time. 

 

Here's what you'll need to start playing:

  • A computer with the desktop version of Chrome or Firefox

  • MetaMask plugin

  • Digital Ethereum wallet

What is MetaMask?

MetaMask is a digital wallet that stores your Ethereum (ETH), a digital currency used in most blockchain games. Every game on the Ethereum blockchain requires MetaMask to play.

Head on over to metamask.io and follow the directions there to install the plugin. Once installed, you'll have access to your own personal MetaMask wallet. 

​

Make sure you keep password and other digital wallet information safe!

How do I get Ether?

There are a couple ways for users to purchase ETH. 

  • Buy ETH in MetaMask (U.S. citizens only) 

  • Buy ETH through an exchange

    • We recommend using Coin​base to send ETH from your Coinbase wallet to your MetaMask wallet.

What is Coinbase?

Coinbase is a digital currency wallet and platform where users can transact with cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum. Most users looking to purchase Ethereum can do so through Coinbase.

Head over to the Coinbase website to get started. ​

***It's important to note that transactions on Coinbase can take up to a week or longer to go through. If you think  you'll need more ETH, plan ahead to account for the delay.***

How do I send ETH to MetaMask?

  • Use the Coinbase widget to buy ETH directly from the MetaMask wallet (U.S. citizens only)

  • Use fiat currency to buy ETH from an exchange (all other countries)

  • Best method: Use Coinbase to send ETH from your Coinbase wallet to your MetaMask wallet as shown to the right
